Jealous
As I was driving into work today, I passed a couple of bike commuters. I was more than a little envious of their opportunity to ride in on such a nice morning.
I probably give more room to cyclists than most drivers, but the nice 'thank you wave' I received today made me feel good - like I was part of the cycling community even though I was in a car.

P.S. The more I listen to Blues Traveler, the more I think that John Popper is really Jack Black. They sound the same!

Funny you make the Blues Traveler/Jack Black connection. Blues Traveler came up on the iPod yesterday, and at first I thought it was Tenacious D (Jack Black's band)!

That's amusing... Bicycle commuting is the RIGHT thing to do, and the GOOD thing to do -- but not always the easiest thing to do!!! Esp. if you don't have showers, etc at work. The "towel" shower is only so acceptable, and gets old real fast. In the summer, here in STL, it is almost impossible sometimes with the humidity. And I've been lectured plenty about taking a change of clothes to work beforehand and all that jazz... sometimes it's just a pain. I do admire the daily cycle commuter! I only do it sometimes and know I should do it ALL THE TIME... but ... what can ya do? LOL... let the bashing begin. Ugh.
I don't try to commute every day, although I would like to most days. It just doesn't always work out, and I'm not going to beat myself up over it.
I ride to have fun. All the fitness benefits and green aspects are just gravy.
I agree whole heartedly on the Jack Black comment.
I always get this sinking feeling when I am in a cage around bicyclists. "Awww man, why am I in this car?!"
I haven't been commuting in the rain this week, either. And I feel kind of bad about it, even though like you, I ride first and foremost for the fun of it. My usual policy is, if it's not raining when I need to leave for work, I ride. But this week, I have avoided riding because of rain in the forecast. It doesn't help that I was sick earlier in the week.
I did have a fun, rain-soaked ride last night, though. I really should have ridden this morning. Alas. Next week, hopefully it'll rain less and I can ride every day.
